For 2017, the WordPress 101 track includes six training sessions, as detailed below:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>WordPress Installation and Settings:<\/strong>\u00a0Installing Local,\u00a0Installing WordPress,\u00a0Settings Area<\/li>\n<li><strong>Creating Content in WordPress:<\/strong>\u00a0Posts and Pages,\u00a0Media and Comments,\u00a0Tips and Tricks<\/li>\n<li><strong>Customizing WordPress (Part 1):<\/strong>\u00a0Choosing and Installing Themes,\u00a0Widgets and Menus,\u00a0The Customizer<\/li>\n<li><strong>Customizing WordPress (Part 2):<\/strong>\u00a0Choosing &amp; Installing Plugins,\u00a0Pro Plugins\/Support,\u00a0Using Shortcodes<\/li>\n<li><strong>Maintaining WordPress:<\/strong>\u00a0Updates, Backups,\u00a0Security<\/li>\n<li><strong>Troubleshooting WordPress:<\/strong>\u00a0Common WordPress Issues, Basic Fixes and Tips,\u00a0Finding Professional Support<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The WordPress 101 track will take place on Saturday, October 28. The <strong>specific times<\/strong> and <strong>locations<\/strong> for the sessions are listed on the <a href=\"https:\/\/2017.philly.wordcamp.org\/schedule\/\">Schedule page<\/a> of this website.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>About the Instructors<\/h2>\n<p>For 2017, the organizers of WordCamp Philly asked leading WordPress instructor Joe Casabona to coordinate the WordPress 101 track. Active in the WordPress community for many years, Joe Casabona offers online courses in WordPress and hosts the hugely popular podcast, <a href=\"https:\/\/howibuilt.it\/\">How I Built It<\/a>. Joe put together the curriculum and assembled the instructional team for this year&#8217;s WordPress 101 track.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Joe Casabona<\/strong> \u2013 Joe is a longtime developer who loves teaching , especially people new to the field. In the 90s, he was squarely in the &#8220;Friends&#8221; camp.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kerch McConlogue<\/strong> \u2013 Kerch has been writing code by hand for 16 years and using WordPress since version 1.5. Her passion is helping WordPress novices to understand the basic care and feeding of their own sites and to get past their fears of breaking the internet.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Beth Soderberg<\/strong> \u2013 Beth is an independent developer and digital communications strategist based out of Washington, DC. She focuses on building thoughtfully architected websites that enable her clients to optimize their online presence while being empowered in managing their content.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Christina Strommer<\/strong> \u2013\u00a0Christina is a small-business owner creating and maintaining WordPress sites. She helps organizations with online communications and media. She&#8217;s also the household chef, a music enthusiast, hobbyist photographer, and frequent reader.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Matt Ryan<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Matt has a WordPress consultancy business offering custom website development and monthly website maintenance. Originally from Baltimore, MD, he now calls Downingtown, PA, home. He is back into development after a long hiatus, having survived for a time as a network project manger and software channel manager.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What You&#8217;ll Need to Bring<\/h2>\n<p>All of the sessions for this track will be hands on. As such, you&#8217;ll want to bring the following materials to make sure you can take the most advantage of the day:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A fully charged laptop computer and the power cord; Mac or PC are both acceptable; and<\/li>\n<li>A notebook and pen or pencil for taking notes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Next Steps for You<\/h2>\n<p>Simply put, you&#8217;ll need a ticket to WordCamp Philly to take advantage of this amazing opportunity.
