WordCamp Philly will provide a Saturday packed with activities<\/a> and a Sunday afternoon of community. But if you have a little extra time, you may want to check out things to see and do in the city.<\/p>\n

We have some suggestions and links to ideas for you — as well as some pointers if you’re looking for a place to eat while you’re here.<\/p>\n

Philly Still Offers the Usual Attractions<\/h2>\n

In the past we’ve covered the traditional points of interest<\/a> such as the Liberty Bell, the Franklin Institute and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. They’re still there — along with lots of other things to enjoy, such as Reading Terminal Market, the One Liberty Observation Deck, Spruce Street Harbor Park and the Betsy Ross House. Here’s a list of 50 possibilities<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But That’s Not All<\/h2>\n

But there are so many more things that probably won’t cross your mind:<\/p>\n

Gawk at the sea monster:<\/strong> the Navy Yard is hosting the installation “Sea Monsters HERE” through Nov. 17. See the article on it<\/a>, which contains directions and transportation information.<\/p>\n

Celebrate the murals:<\/strong> October is Mural Arts Month, and Mural Arts Philadelphia — whose works have graced our site and social media — is celebrating. It has events daily<\/a>, including a couple of dedications of new murals. You can also take one of its regularly-offered tours<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Take in a play:<\/strong> there are many theaters in the Philly area and several shows to choose from<\/a>. The Curio Theater<\/a>\u00a0— the closest to the University of the Sciences — is presenting the Arthur Miller classic, “All My Sons,” on Oct. 26 and 27.<\/p>\n

See if you can spot Gritty:<\/strong> the Philadelphia Flyers<\/a> have a home game against the New York Islanders on Oct. 27. If you want to see Philly’s newest mascot for your self, odds are you’ll find him there.<\/p>\n

Marvel at Rube Goldberg’s creativity:<\/strong> the National Museum of American Jewish History is hosting an exhibit “The Art of Rube Goldberg<\/a>” through the fall. Goldberg’s name is associated with his drawings of wildly complicated machines, but many people don’t know he was a Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoons.<\/p>\n

While You’re Here, Grab a Meal or Two<\/h2>\n

Last year’s Philly Food Guide<\/a> is still a comprehensive overview of what to eat while you’re here. You can also check out the recently-updated\u00a0Eater’s Guide to Philadelphia<\/a>\u00a0or the 38 Essential Philadelphia Restaurants, Fall 2018<\/a>, for more suggestions.<\/p>\n

If you’re more interested in quick and convenient locations near the University of the Sciences rather than dining experiences, your best bets will be along Baltimore Avenue between 43rd and 51st streets and 40th Street between Market and Spruce streets.
