After WordCamp Philly: What’s Next?

WordCamp Philly is coming to an end, but if you’re new to WordPress and are looking for opportunities to explore it further, you don’t need to wait until the next one. There are plenty of ways to learn and become part of the community!

Here are a few suggestions:

Other WordCamps

The number and locations of WordCamps around the world has continued to grow. If you live in the Philly area, our neighbors in Lancaster, Lehigh Valley, New York,, Baltimore and Washington, DC, among others, offer WordCamps of their own.

If you don’t live in this area, or if you’re able to travel, there are opportunities everywhere and at all times of the year. Check out the calendar of WordCamps at WordCamp Central.

WordPress Meetups

Philly is unusual for having two WordPress Meetup groups.

The Philadelphia WordPress Meetup meets the third Thursday of the month in Center City. It aims for locations that are near transportation and parking places. The cost is free, but you need to create an account on Meetup and RSVP.

The Philly ‘burbs Meetup meets on a Monday — usually the first or second — each month. It rotates through four different locations in the suburbs west of Philly to make the event as accessible as possible to members. The cost to attend is $5.

Beyond the immediate area there are many other options: groups in Lancaster, Lehigh Valley, Reading, New Castle County, New Jersey and most of the major cities on the East Coast.

(A piece of advice: if you search for a location, set the search radius as wide as possible because the Meetup locator can produce unpredictable results.)

Meetups are always looking for new speakers, too. If you have some experience to share, touch base with the organizers. They’ll be happy to hear from you.

WordPress.tv

If you enjoy WordPress talks in particular, we have a site for you. WordPress.tv is the repository of all the talks recorded from WordPress events over the years. If you can’t make it to Miami or San Diego or London, no worries. If there’s a recording, you’ll find it out there.

Make WordPress

You can help make WordPress! And you don’t even need to know how to code. WordPress has many teams: core, marketing, translations, support forums, documentation, design and accessibility, among others. You can find lots more details at the Make WordPress site.

Whether at Contributor Day events or on your own time, you can help continue to build and grow WordPress.
