WordCamp Philly’s Contributor Day on October 6 will move a few blocks south and west from our main venue. We’ll be at 1776 Rittenhouse on the 12th floor of 1608 Walnut Street — directly across the street from the Apple store. Visit our Info page for a map of the area.
Doors will open at 12:45 pm, with activities from 1-4 pm. There are no formal presentations or official schedule; just show up and find a seat. If you’re new and not sure where you may fit in, ask one of the organizers and we’ll help you find the activity that best suits you.
What is Contributor Day?
WordPress, being open source software, depends on the contributions of its many volunteers to succeed and grow. Contributor Day is an opportunity for you to be involved in your own way.
There are nearly 20 different teams that tackle various aspects of WordPress: designing the user interface, writing code, testing for accessibility, translating WP into other languages, answering questions on the support forums, writing documentation, creating marketing materials and more. You can read about the teams on the Make WordPress site and think about what you’re interested in.
No special level of expertise is needed. Contributor Day is also an opportunity to get on board in an area that interests you.
What Should You Bring?
All you need is a laptop with a power cord. You may want to bring some writing materials, too.
It’s helpful (and sometimes essential) to have a WordPress.org account. They’re free. If you don’t have one yet, you can create yours before or on the day of the event.
