A WordCamp Philly FAQ for You!

3-dimensional question marks lying on a dark surface
As the big weekend approaches, WordCamp Philly attendees are asking us lots of questions. First-timers are especially uncertain of what to expect when they arrive. Relax — we promise you there’s nothing to worry about.

Here’s a rundown of the most common questions we’ve seen. We have answers!

Q. Where can I find the full schedule?
A. We have the schedule online on this site, along with listings of sessions and speakers.

Q. What do I do when I get to WordCamp?
A. Check in at the registration desk so we can mark you as attending, get you a name tag and say hello. Registration starts at 8 am in the STC Building atrium.

Q. I registered online and don’t have a ticket. Will I be able to get in?
A. Absolutely. Nobody else has a printed ticket. either. We’ll have your registration details at the desk.

Q. What do I do after I register?
A. Opening remarks will be at 9 am and the keynote starts about 10-15 minutes afterwards. Until then, grab a snack, check out the sponsor tables or make some new friends. The WordCamp Philly attendees are generally a friendly bunch.

Q. What if I’m coming late? Can I still register?
A. Yes!

Q. I don’t know my way around campus. What do I do?
A. The STC Building, where you’ll register, is where Woodland Avenue meets up with 43rd and 45th streets (across from Clark Park). Once you’re there, we’ll have signage everywhere.

Q. What do I need? Should I have any software installed?
A. If you’re planning on attending the WordPress 101 talks or getting help at the Happiness Bar, then you should have your computer ready as these are hands-on activities. No software is required, but know your passwords.

Q. What about the other talks? Should I have my computer?
A. You won’t necessarily need it for the talks, unless you want to take notes and prefer to do it on computer. But it can be handy to have with you. It’s also helpful to have some note paper and a pen or pencil.

Q. What about internet access?
A. The University of the Sciences will have wireless internet available. We’ll have the details when you register on Saturday.

Q. Is there anything else I should remember?
A. Remember to charge your computer, phone and any other devices fully. Bring a charger if you have one. If you have business cards, have a few on hand just in case. And during the talks, please don’t forget to turn your ringer off.

Q. What if I have a question or need help while I’m at WordCamp?
A. Look for anyone whose name badge is hanging from an orange or rainbow-colored lanyard. The orange ones signify volunteers. The people wearing rainbow lanyards are the co-organizers. We’ll do our best to assist.
