Within the WordPress community, we are beginning to see a need to better support our children with the challenges of autism and related issues, particularly as they grow into adults.

At 1:30 pm October 27, the WordCamp Philly panel “Creating Inclusive Workplaces: What Tech Communities Are Doing to Support Employees with Autism and Related Challenges”  will focus on how the tech community can create systems that enable people with autism and related challenges to flourish professionally.

WordCamp Philly Presenting Panel on Ethics at Oct. 27 Event

four individuals, each holding the piece of a puzzle
How do ethics apply to official WordPress-related events and to the businesses and individuals affiliated with those events? What happens if the businesses or individuals promote or earn income from groups whose mission is incompatible with the Code of Conduct? Where is the line for WordCamps when it comes to “providing a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for all”?

WordCamp Philly 2018 will explore the issue in its panel, “Where the Rubber Meets the Road: Ethics, Values and the WordPress Community”. The panel will be at 10:50 am Saturday, October 27.

Call for Volunteer Photographer!

WordCamp Philly 2018 is almost upon us, and we are in need of a volunteer photographer or two! We want to bring a new perspective to the event by offering the opportunity to capture the talks, panels and overall atmosphere. If you are a highly motivated individual with a lens, please get in touch via the contact form if you are interested!

WordCamp Philly has three themes this year: Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection, Independence, and City of Firsts. We invite volunteer photographers to use their cameras to capture these themes at WordCamp Philly. (To be clear, we’re not photographers so we have no idea how to do this. We’re hoping our volunteer photographers will!)

As a volunteer photographer, you will need to publish your photos online under a Creative Commons license.

Unveiling the 2018 Wapuus!

In the grand tradition of the Philly Wapuu, we’re proud to introduce three new Wapuus. Our theme this year is Philly firsts. We choose just a few that were a surprise to us, but with a city whose history is as rich as Philadelphia’s, it was hard to choose!

Never heard of a Wapuu?… you can read all about how Wapuu came about here and then promptly fall in love like the rest of us. Read on to see our 2018 creations!

We’ll have talks on preparation and feature selection for your audience; project management; the security of email marketing; sites for non-profits; and Google Analytics and driving traffic to your site.
